One of the often overlooked aspects of tree care when it comes to landscapes is fertilization. Many people assume that trees will just grow into full sized healthy trees with water and proper trimming. For most trees however, fertilizing gives them to the best chance to reach their full potential. This is especially true for trees or shrubs that aren’t native to central Texas. A tree service is the best option when it comes to fertilizing of trees.
What time of year should I fertilize my trees?
It is a good idea to wonder what time of year is best for tree fertilization but the real question to ask is what kind of fertilizer to use. The type of fertilizer to use really depends on what is happening with the tree at that time of the year. An example would be in the fall when most of the root development is happening in preparation for winter. You would want to use a fertilizer that is mean to boost root development. In the springtime you would want to use one that is gonna promote healthy foliage development. We have custom tailored our fertilization program based on the needs of landscapes here in central Texas and we use organic fertilizers for optimal benefit. Can’t I just use those spikes they sell at the store?
We encounter a lot of people using tree spikes on their landscape and most of the time we wouldn’t recommend them. While they can be an inexpensive option and most people use them to save money on fertilizer. This can be a problem since these spikes really can’t get the fertilizer where it is needed down in the root system of the tree. We actually have an injection system that injects the fertilizer down deep into the soil at a low pressure to get to the root system. Using the low pressure allows us to get fertilizer right where it’s need without damaging roots that are delicate. This system is far superior to other methods used including tree spikes and other tree services. Let us know and we can custom tailor our fertilization program for your landscape.
